True Fiction Novel

While serving a 24-month sentence, I began to collect stories from my fellow inmates. One by one I would converse with brothers who seemed to have a good head on their shoulders. Some things should never be repeated, but some define the underground flow of Memphis. I took notes; added my own personal eXperiences and shaped what I like to call true fiction. Riding Chrome is the first short story I came up with, although I wrote several others. When I wrote the first 3 chapters I passed them around to let other inmates read them. The neXt thing I knew I had a tote full of commissary. Brothers were paying me in jail to read my stories. One morning an officer stopped at my cell and said dang Williams, you got’em begging for the neXt chapter before the ink settles, it’s still green! I incorporated that with the fact that I’m green as a writer. I don’t know how to format a book, but I wrote it anyway. I got a letter from a brother that told me he lost in trial and was sentenced to life plus 10, that’s 61 years.
